May 2017 - As If Productions recently upgraded the website of the Experimental Television Center from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7. As Drupal developers know, the upgrade from 6 to 7 is particularly hairy and not at all intuitive. The job was especially complicated as the center features a massive Biblio-based database, which required manual reconstruction in MySQL. The Center was founded in 1971, an outgrowth of a media access program established by Ralph Hocking at Binghamton University in 1969; today, the Center continues to provide support and services to the media arts community. Feb 2014 - The purpose of AllReality.com is to help scientists and non-scientists discuss physics and consciousness in the context of theories that explain research results in both of these fields. The site both archives the monthly meetings held by the All Reality Study Group in Santa Monica, CA, and serves as an online companion for the topics discussed at those meetings. The site was built in Drupal 7, and includes a custom response system in which various types of responses (agreement, disagreement, etc) are grouped beneath each topic in a series of nested vertical sliding panels. The Drupal infrastructure allowed us to add a variety of new features, and improved the site's performance speed immensely. Nov 2013 - When the Queen Latifah show needed an interface for browsing and annotating viewer submissions including both images and video, AIP was brought in by Digital Kitchen to provide it. The interface, hidden from public view, allows show producers to search and sort through hundreds of submissions arriving daily, and to share notes on which submissions might make good guests for the show. To get this system off the ground it was first necessary to migrate several hundreds thousand submissions from the Webform format to the more robust Entity format, allowing search indexing and fully-featured Drupal fields to be applied to them. The interface was then built using a combination of Views and custom code, with a lot of jQuery-driven event handling for dynamic effects and inline editing. This site features a complex arrangement of inter-related custom content types and media elements, making elaborate use of the "Relativity" and "Quicktabs" modules. Another nifty feature of the site is provided by Magic Magnify, which happily comes in a Drupal version that worked right out of the box. Dec 2010 - Your online home for everything Hollywood, the team over at Hollyscoop contracted AIP to migrate their web-and-television empire over to the Drupal platform. The new site features a unique userpoints system, fivestar ratings for all content, integration with major social networks, a huge archive of online videos, a vast complex of photo galleries for celebrity snooping, and a mobile version for gossip-on-the-go. Migrating a massive site from a homegrown database schema is always a challenge, but it happens often enough to be considered normal around here. The trickiest aspect of this build was not the migration but the theme: exactly replicating the look and style of the original Hollyscoop site, now with Drupal goodness under the hood. The Hollyscoop site was only the first part of a four-part migration, as the original site was pslit into four separate entities, each with similar capabilities but slight variations in theme. After 3 years on the Drupal platform, owner/editor Vera Sweeney decided to scale back on advanced community-oriented functionality and move back to a more direct blogging approach. While the community features have been removed and some minor differences do exist, we took pains to retain her custom Drupal Theme when migrating it to the WordPress platform.
